Coaching is training, let me explain
Let me try and make this crystal clear.
Mental training for athletes isn't a " I'll do it when I have a problem" thing.
It should make up part of your whole training, like sports drills, gym work, footwork, nutrition, plyometrics, serve training, technique work, tactical analysis etc.
And here is one the the biggest barriers in more athletes doing this work.
It is viewed as something to do when there is a problem and that they have mental weakness if they embark on it (and opponents may know that and exploit it)
How is it different from acknowledging your are physically not as strong as you want and heading to the gym to get stronger?
It isn't.
It is just a perception, and if I'm honest a story created which results in fear and shame around doing the work.
It is training.
It is training.
It is training.
It is training.
End of.
If you want to be mentally more resilient
If you want to be calmer in big moments.
If you want to handle losses better
If you want less double faults
If you want to win more big points lost
If you want less intrusive thoughts in high pressure moments
You need to train this. End of.
I coach elite athletes to achieve all of the above.
If you are a coach, player, manager who thinks the player needs more mental training please reach out.
IT IS TRAINING.
