This article is a very real and common representation of many professional athletes.
For one person it may be sleeping pills. For others it can easily be gaming, gambling, girls, painkillers, porn, class a drugs (less so due to testing), shopping etc.
Life in sport can be very narrow and closed. You excel and focus one one thing to the max and everything else takes second place.
Athletes around the globe struggle with this, I have seen it first hand over 23 years of being in professional sport.
Some are fortunate to have other interests outside of their profession, but many don't.
If you ask most non-athlete people what they want more of, a common answer is more time.
Professional athletes often have lots of spare time - which is a killer.
